Optics is a branch of physics that deals with the determination of behaviour and the properties of light, along with its interactions with the matter and also with the instruments which are used to detect it. Optics, in a simple manner, is used to describe the behaviour of visible light, infrared light, and the ultraviolet. Photonics is the physical science of light (photon) generation, detection, and manipulation through emission, transmission, modulation, signal processing, switching, amplification, and sensing. Under this topic, we will study about light phenomenons-Interference, Diffraction and Polarization and about Lasers, holography and fibre-optics.

Physical chemistry II is a compulsory core course, taught in the 5th semester of B.Sc. chemistry program and deals with the concepts of Thermodynamics, Equilibrium and Phase rule as well as Colloids and Surface chemistry.
